Emirates Palace Hotel
-masterplanning illustration-

As I recently (Oct 2020) landed in the UAE, I looked forward celebrating my time here by completing this very special ‘artchi-work’. I just finished this digital drawing of the Emirates Palace Hotel, and wanted to share it with the world.

What really captured my attention besides its sheer size and luxury was the continuous language used across its masterplan. There is a beautifully fluid but controlled balance of geometries and proportions at play, showing great respect for the Islamic architectural elements used. This combined with the numerous fountains and the hundreds of palm trees that envelop the complex, make this hotel an architectural sight not to be missed.

And I have to praise the fact that if a building that only started its construction in 2001 can evoke similar emotions as an ancient monument, then that is an amazing achievement in itself, and should be celebrated.

I had so much fun drawing this, and did my best to represent the building’s beautiful details. I have to say that due to my obsessive detailing, the poor IPad had to work overtime, but hey it all worked out in the end!

I am looking forward to the next drawings!
